KPMG LLP To Sponsor HBCU showcase At the Armory For Third Consecutive Year
|
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 19, 2024 For the third consecutive year, The Armory Foundation is proud to announce that KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, will serve as the title sponsor for the 2025 HBCU Showcase track and field invitational. The HBCU Showcase is scheduled to take place at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory on Saturday, January 18, 2025, and will be live streamed to more than 33 million subscribers on Peacock at 2:30pm. “With the generous support of KPMG for the third year, The Armory Foundation is thrilled to host HBCU teams on MLK weekend,” said Zakia Haywood, meet director of the HBCU Showcase. “The Showcase is a prime opportunity to increase visibility of HBCU talent, provide high school scholar-athletes a chance to engage with college coaches, and offer a unique glimpse of HBCU culture with dynamic featured performances.” The 2024 HBCU Showcase included participants from 19 men’s and women’s HBCU teams, including Coppin State University, Hampton University, Huston-Tillotson University, Florida A&M University, Prairie View A&M University, Howard University, Norfolk State University and St. Augustine’s University. Over the last two years, we have collectively engaged more than 1,000 HBCU athletes. Stay tuned to see which schools will be competing this January. The showcase offers an engaging opportunity for HBCU college admissions representatives to interact with students who are considering their path to higher education. Students are able to explore the opportunities that an HBCU education and experience can provide while getting an early look at career opportunities at firms like KPMG. “We are proud to collaborate with The Armory Foundation for the third consecutive year to foster opportunities for all students to pursue higher education and fulfilling career paths,” said Elena Richards, KPMG U.S. Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer. “At KPMG, we are dedicated to cultivating a diverse workforce and creating an inclusive work environment where everyone can thrive in their career. Our ongoing commitment to HBCUs is another step toward this goal.” “At KPMG, we believe in fostering meaningful connections with HBCUs that extend beyond traditional recruitment efforts. We are focused on building enduring relationships that empower both students and local communities. The Showcase serves as a testament to this dedication,” said Jennifer Neal, KPMG U.S. Diversity Talent Attraction Leader. The HBCU Showcase sponsored by KPMG highlights track and field programs from historically Black colleges and universities across the country. A college admissions fair will also be held during the meet, engaging hundreds of New York City high school students as they prepare for their future education. Many of these students attending citywide public, parochial, charter or private schools will participate in track races as part of The Mayor’s Cup Relays. Since 2023, the number of high school participants has increased from 50 to over 300. Tens of thousands of high school students train and compete at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory each year, and this venue offers a unique opportunity for HBCU college admissions representatives and high school students to interact. The Howard University “Showtime” Marching Band electrified the arena last year as two hours of competition was broadcast on the Peacock network, with the remainder live streamed on the RunnerSpace network. The defending women’s champion Hampton University and men’s champion Norfolk State University are expected to return, along with dozens of other teams. Full meet information and tickets available for purchase will be posted at ArmoryTrack.org. The Armory hosts more than 100 track and field events each season, including the historic Millrose Games.
