You are invited to attend the Jollof Festival at Johnson C. Smith University from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. This event is the final of a week of events celebrating Global Education Week.

President Valerie Kinloch's Strategic Vision drove the Global Awareness Education Week, unveiled on August 24, 2023, at the inaugural Lyceum Engagement Series, outlined priorities and opportunities for a new era of excellence, including quality academic experiences/mentoring, equitable funding, international work, infrastructure strengthening, global collaboration, entrepreneurship, academic partnerships, healthcare enhancement, online learning expansion, inclusive cultures, resource bridging, and disruptive innovation, aiming to elevate our institution to a top 10 HBCU.

About HBCU Jollof Festival
The Jollof Rice Festival is a groundbreaking culinary experience celebrating the beloved West African dish through blind tastings, chef competitions, and city-hopping tours.

From Sept. 18-21, 2024, HBCU Jollof Festival launches at Johnson C.



Smith University creating a unique platform for African Food and Culture Global Awareness and Education Week, targeted engagement, parent & family weekend and community connection to a passionate and growing audience.

The Opportunity:
• Reach a diverse and engaged audience: Connect with HBCU campus culture, students and faculty roundtable discussions, passionate foodies, cultural enthusiasts, and a growing African diaspora community.
• Tap into the thriving cultural phenomenon: We are creating a growing interest in West African food and culture locally in Charlotte's global market.
• Activate unique engagement opportunities: Participate in unique engagement opportunities: Join the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority Lunch & Learn on Culture & Tourism, explore the growing international destination market with JCSU students, and take part in The African Think Tank Pitch Contest where students can pitch ideas for a chance to win cash prizes. Enjoy product sampling, a guest performance by Afrobeat artist IB-Kay, and collaborations with the Lyceum Engagement Committee and city stakeholders.
• Support a thriving cultural movement: Contribute to a festival that celebrates diversity, fosters community, and promotes sustainable practices during Welcoming America Week.
