Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on September 20, 2024 Grant Will Fund Initiative to Enhance Teacher Diversity and Multilingual Representation in Underrepresented Populations Grambling State University (GSU) has been awarded a $2.1 million Augustus F. Hawkins Centers of Excellence Grant from the Biden-Harris administration. The grant will support GSU’s GramPREP initiative, aimed at diversifying the educator workforce and addressing the shortage of bilingual teachers. The project, led by Dr. Danielle Williams, Assistant Professor in the College of Education, will provide aspiring teachers from underrepresented populations with extensive training and support, including collaboration with local education agencies (LEAs) and the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET). The program will also address financial barriers for bilingual teacher candidates and promote inclusive learning environments. The four-year grant will help GSU enhance its teacher preparation programs and develop a sustainable pipeline of diverse educators, positioning the university as a leader in workforce preparedness.
