UDC Student Leadership Retreat Brings Together Campus Leaders Last Weekend

Posted By: TaQuan Ford on October 19, 2024 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is gearing up for its highly anticipated Student Leadership Retreat, scheduled to take place Last Friday and Saturday, [specific dates]. The event will bring together current and aspiring student leaders, including members of the Royal Court, Student Government Association (SGA), various clubs and organizations, as well as university staff, for two days of immersive workshops, team-building activities, and discussions on how to strengthen leadership across the university community. The retreat, held annually, is designed to equip UDC students with the skills and insights needed to lead both on campus and in their future careers. Day One: Leadership Development The retreat will kick off on Friday with attendees will include a broad spectrum of UDC’s student leadership, including members of the Royal Court, SGA, and other campus clubs and organizations, alongside UDC staff. “There’s a lot of excitement this year,” said Percy Henry, UDC’s Director of Student Life. “We want to create an experience where students leave feeling empowered to make a difference, not just on campus but in the broader community. This retreat is the perfect opportunity for students to develop skills that will last a lifetime.” Students will participate in workshops covering topics such as conflict resolution, team dynamics, and effective communication, giving them tools to enhance their leadership roles across the UDC campus. Day Two: Team Building and Planning Saturday will focus on team-building activities and strategy sessions. The Royal Court, SGA, club and organization members, along with staff, will work in groups to tackle various leadership challenges, giving them a chance to apply the skills learned on Friday. The day will conclude with a planning session where students and staff can collaborate on future projects and initiatives for the school year. “This retreat is all about collaboration,” added Henry. “It gives students the opportunity to connect with peers from different backgrounds and learn how to lead effectively together.” Looking Forward The UDC Student Leadership Retreat is seen as an essential event for student organizations and leaders, setting the tone for the upcoming academic year. With a focus on fostering leadership in the UDC community, students and staff are expected to return to campus with a renewed sense of purpose and direction. As the retreat approaches, UDC students are encouraged to participate and make the most of this opportunity for personal and professional growth.
