UDC Homecoming Week, Firebird Reunion to Celebrate Community, Legacy and the Path Ahead

UDC Homecoming Week, Firebird Reunion to Celebrate Community, Legacy and the Path Ahead
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on November 04, 2024

It’s a Firebird Reunion! The University of the District of Columbia’s Homecoming 2024, running Nov. 9-Nov. 16, will honor UDC’s proud legacy as the District’s only public university and the nation’s second-oldest HBCU, with roots dating back to 1851. To celebrate, we are inviting every member of our community—alumni, current and prospective students, faculty, staff, families, friends and neighbors—to join in honoring our past and revving up for our future.

As we look to the future, we’re also thrilled to announce the launch event for UDC’s new strategic plan, Delivering on the Promise, to be held as part of Homecoming 2024 on Friday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This gathering will officially introduce our community to the bold vision guiding UDC’s next chapter, with insights from UDC President Maurice Edington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and key stakeholders on the university’s strategic priorities and goals. It will be an opportunity to hear firsthand how UDC’s renewed focus on excellence in student achievement, alignment with workforce needs and impactful community service will propel the university forward as a leading institution in the District and across the nation.

This year’s festivities include something for everyone—from a community service project in Congress Heights to a fashion show in Lamond-Riggs to an alumni basketball game in Van Ness—bridging generations from UDC and its predecessor schools and lifting up the shared history that has shaped our Firebird family. UDC has evolved considerably over the decades, but one thing has remained the same—its commitment to its students.
