VP Kamala Harris to Speak at HBCU Howard University at 1pm EST, Addressing Election Results

VP Kamala Harris to Speak at HBCU Howard University at 1pm EST, Addressing Election Results
Posted By: Will Moss on November 06, 2024

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to address her supporters at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Wednesday afternoon, following her election loss to Donald Trump.

The former president cleared enough electoral votes to secure a second, nonconsecutive term in the White House, becoming the first person convicted of a felony to win the presidency, according to the Associated Press.

Harris, who had been scheduled to speak earlier, postponed her remarks until Wednesday as results rolled in.

Standing at her alma mater where her political journey began, it remains unclear if Harris will deliver a formal concession speech.

According to theHarris-Walz campaign, the event is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

and doors to the public open at 1. Attendees are asked toarrive at the corner of Georgia Ave and Barry Place NW and "prepare to go through airport-like security."

Harris’ campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond had briefly addressed the crowd Tuesday night, explaining the delay in Harris’ appearance, leaving supporters with a sense of uncertainty.

Richmond thanked those who attended and for "believing in the promise of America."

"We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken," Richmond said. "So you won't hear from the vice president tonight, but you will hear from her tomorrow. She will be back here tomorrow to address not only the H.U. family, not only to address her supporters but to address the nation."
