Many resources, groups, and strategies are available to help you build meaningful connections and find the support you need. This guide explores practical ways to grow your network and safeguard your mental well-being as an LGBTQ+ college student. Explore LGBTQ+ Groups on Campus Many colleges and universities have dedicated LGBTQ+ organizations. These groups often host events, workshops, and meetups where you can meet others who share similar experiences. Participating in these activities is a great way to meet new friends and discover a supportive network within your campus. Check out your institution’s student support services to find groups tailored to LGBTQ+ students. Many of these organizations also offer safe spaces for discussions, mentorship programs, and initiatives to educate the broader student body. They’re a welcoming starting point for fostering connection. Join Local LGBTQ+ Community Centers Local LGBTQ+ community centers can provide a sense of belonging. Look for centers, like Encircle, that offer support groups and programs that empower LGBTQ+ young adults by connecting them with peers, mentors, and resources. These programs create a welcoming environment where you can share your experiences and feel understood. They are accessible anytime and can help you feel less alone. Volunteer With LGBTQ+ Causes Giving back to the LGBTQ+ community can help you feel more connected and purposeful while supporting ongoing causes. Volunteering introduces you to individuals who share your values and are working toward similar goals. Whether you’re joining campus LGBTQ+ groups, visiting centers, or connecting digitally, take steps to invest in your emotional health and your sense of belonging.
