The Illusion of Campaign Promises: A Closer Look at Trump's Political Strategy

Posted By: Randi Payton on January 28, 2025 Despite the widespread recognition that Donald Trump's campaign promises were not grounded in reality but rather in fear-mongering, the media continues to report on his current actions as if they were legitimate campaign promises. This raises a critical question: why do we treat these actions as solutions to real problems when the problems themselves were inaccurately portrayed? A politician typically identifies issues and proposes solutions. However, in Trump's case, the issues he highlighted were often exaggerated or entirely fabricated. While a rational person bases their understanding on reality, an irrational person constructs reality based on delusions. This is particularly true for narcissists or habitual liars who repeat falsehoods until they believe them and convince others of their truth. This is the crux of the issue we face today. From immigration concerns to conspiracy theories about government overreach, Trump has used these false narratives to justify actions that destabilize the government and undermine the Constitution. If his goal were truly to solve problems, he would not appoint unqualified individuals to lead major agencies and defense departments. The influence of greed and fear in American politics became more pronounced after the Supreme Court allowed wealthy individuals to finance political campaigns. This decision has enabled misinformation campaigns and placed narcissists at the helm of the GOP. Politicians have become so self-serving that they are willing to transform the government into a dictatorship run by criminals. The Democratic Party must recognize that this is not business as usual. It must invest in substantial counter-campaigns in every area where the GOP has launched well-funded legal and misinformation efforts. Wherever false information is spread, equally well-financed campaigns promoting the truth must be launched. Addressing this political landscape requires a concerted effort to counteract misinformation and promote factual discourse. Only then can we hope to restore integrity and sanity to American politics.
