The National Football League and EA SPORTSTM concluded its 5th year to support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with its the Madden NFL x HBCU Tournament as Morgan State University Senior Jayson Hill defeated Graduate Student Dametri Hill from Bethune Cookman University and crowned champion at the Full Sail Fortress this week. The two finalists punched their ticket to Orlando after competing in an online tournament with students from other HBCUs across the U.S. The championship match was part of the NFL’s annual Madden NFL HBCU Tournament Series, which is designed to reach and empower students attending HBCUs that have a passion for gaming and football.

“Dametri was a great opponent, but I knew I had to play my regular game. I knew he couldn’t beat me. I could only beat myself,” said Jayson Hill, the Madden NFL x HBCU Tournament champion. “Outside of winning, this week gave me a lot of guidance for my career. But most of all, if you have a passion for what you want to do, you will always have a great time.”

In addition to the competition, four students were selected through video submissions to join the player finalists in behind-the-scenes engagements at EA’s local studio location, a VIP experience at the NFL Pro Bowl Skills Showdown, and networking with NFL, EA and Microsoft executives to learn more about the business of sport, and more.

Microsoft gifted the students a Microsoft surface tablet as part of the experienceship, where they captured content throughout the week.

Senior Antonio Thomas, a video submission finalist for the Madden NFL x HBCU Tournament from Florida Memorial University said, “The Madden NFL x HBCU Tournament experience furthered my knowledge in ways I wasn’t expecting. It inspired me to see individuals in places I want to be in and making me want to work harder to achieve my goals.”

• Senior Jayson Hill from Morgan State University majoring in Marketing (favorite team - Washington Commanders)
