North Carolina A&T State University Selected as Participating Institution for Prestigious Beinecke Scholarship Program

North Carolina A&T State University Selected as Participating Institution for Prestigious Beinecke Scholarship Program
Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on February 24, 2025

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University announces its partnership with the Beinecke Scholarship Program, marking a significant milestone as the first historically Black college and university (HBCU) in several years to be selected to join the participating institutions list for this prestigious program.

The Beinecke Scholarship Program, established in 1971, provides supplemental funding of up to $35,000 to highly motivated students with exceptional promise “to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences.”

This highly competitive national scholarship selects up to 20 applicants annually. It aims to encourage students with a documented history of being eligible to receive need-based financial aid to enter a master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences soon after earning their undergraduate degree.
N.C. A&T is only the second public HBCU to join the participating institutions list and the eighth total. Clemson University, Harvard University, Howard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are among the program’s list of 146 participating institutions.

“N.C.

A&T has a notable track record of producing renowned scholars and leaders in the arts, humanities and social sciences, which is why it was important to me to initiate and submit a competitive application for us to join the Beinecke Scholarship Program’s list of participating institutions,” said Alsace-Lorraine Gallop, A&T’s national scholarships and fellowships coordinator and Fulbright Program adviser.

Beinecke Scholars directly receive up to $5,000 prior to beginning their graduate degree to offset associated application and travel expenses, with $30,000 available during graduate studies on top of any support offered by the chosen graduate program.

Beinecke Scholarship director Matthew Loar, Ph.D., and Gallop cohosted a special A&T webinar for interested students, faculty, and staff Feb. 5 in advance of the required 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, Feb. 25, endorsement application deadline.

Juniors expecting to receive their bachelor’s degrees between December 2025 and August 2026 and who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. Only one applicant may be nominated per institution. Students intending to further their studies in neuroscience or clinical psychology are ineligible.

For more information, email Gallop in NCAT Extraordinary Opportunities (NCAT EO) at acgallop@ncat.edu before the required endorsement application deadline.
