Peer Mediation

Peer Mediation is a program that teaches students an alternative set of skills they can apply in conflict situations. In mediation, a third-party student mediator helps other students to come to a win-win resolution without taking sides. Student mediators are taught a process of communication and problem-solving that they apply to help their peers reach settlements of their disagreements without confrontation or violence. They also learn that conflict can be constructive and positive. If you are a student and you are a good listener, care about others, and are sensitive to the feelings of others, you may want to consider becoming a student mediator. To become a student mediator, a student must complete an application, which includes a letter of recommendation and a resume. They will also be interviewed. If accepted into the program, they must take an 8-hour course which is offered in the fall and spring. The Department of Student Activities oversees the Peer Mediation Program at VSU.
