(Marisa Pankow | Contributing Photographer)Marisa Pankow Name: Zakiya Ball School: Holland Patent Class: Senior Position: Left side hitter What’s next for you? College Who inspires you? Charitie Luper, because she’s who I aspire to be one day. She’s a positive and outgoing player who applies her skills harder each game. She’s the shortest hitter that I know of in college volleyball for DI and that’s just phenomenal to me. She also plays the same position as I, which is cool. What is your favorite memory from this season? It was the last point against South Jefferson. I can see myself just crying to my teammates on the court as the ball was served and we rallied until we finally got the point and we just huddled on the floor crying because it was the first time in history that Holland Patent won a semifinals game. And that was very exciting and emotional. What is your favorite quote from your favorite sports movie? “It ain’t about how hard you hit it. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” — Rocky Balboa. This is my favorite sports quote because it shows that pushing through the tough losses and practices is all worth it and it builds character. If you could have any fictional character as your teammate in your sport, who would it be? Cricket Green. I feel like he would be a crazy good libero because he’s small, quick, and energetic.
