Lexus Joins the Small SUV Club with the 2025 UX 300h Hybrid

Posted By: Randi Payton on May 28, 2025 The 2025 Lexus UX 300h AWD joined the crowded subcompact luxury crossover market, powered by the fifth-generation hybrid technology developed and improved by Toyota since 1997, when it launched the Prius, the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. It’s a natural next step for Toyota’s luxury division to employ this gasoline-electric technology in the popular luxury subcompact crossover segment. The new hybrid technology in the 2025 Lexus UX 300h (formerly the UX250) features a 60-cell lithium-ion battery that replaces the previous model’s nickel-metal hydride, offering improved efficiency, performance, and a range of 43 MPG, according to the EPA. The UX 300h not only offers improved fuel efficiency but also the reliability, luxury, and convenience expected from Lexus. Although prices start around $38,110 MSRP for the base model, a loaded F Sport model can range up to $49,455 MSRP, which is still lower than many of its competitors. Models/Price: The 2025 Lexus UX 300h comes in four different styles: The base UX ($36,540), UX 300h F Sport Design ($40,490), UX 300h F Sport Handling ($45,005), and Premium ($39,740). Prices are based on the standard front-wheel drive (FWD) versions. All-wheel drive (AWD) adds about another thousand to the price. Power/Performance: After a week behind the wheel, I discovered that while it excels in efficiency and refinement, don’t expect lots of interior room or exhilarating speed. The UX is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors (AWD includes three) for a combined 196 horsepower. It is quiet and smooth while accelerating from zero to sixty in 7.9 seconds. All models come with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive as an option. Exterior: The compact UX 300h retains the Lexus signature front grille with stylish LED lights, low roofline, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Interior: Once inside, you’re surrounded by Lexus craftsmanship, including premium materials, faux leather heated/ventilated front seats, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Other features include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a 10-inch head-up display (optional). Safety: The Lexus Safety System provides a sense of security on the road with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keep Assist, Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
