2025 Chevy Silverado EV Redefines Electric Truck Range

Posted By: Randi Payton on June 04, 2025 The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV is a game-changer, shattering range anxiety with an industry-leading 492 miles per charge, making it the most efficient electric pickup on the market. With 754 horsepower, a 12,500-pound towing capacity, and cutting-edge tech, the Silverado EV proves that electric powertrains can outperform their gasoline counterparts. The parent company, General Motors (GM), isn’t stopping there. The automaker is hard at work pushing the boundaries with the next generation of lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic batteries, set to debut in 2028, which promises a 33% higher energy density and $6,000 per-vehicle cost savings. The future of battery technology is evident in the Silverado EV and across GM’s lineup, including the Cadillac Escalade IQ (which I’m currently testing), delivering an estimated 460 miles of range, further cementing GM’s lead in long-range EV tech. “Our technology investments have helped GM become the #2 seller of electric vehicles in the U.S., with first-quarter EV sales up 94%,” said Kurt Kelty, GM’s VP of Battery Propulsion and Sustainability. “We offer the industry’s most diverse EV portfolio, with a dozen models in the market.” Backed by LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI, GM’s Michigan-based R&D team is ensuring these advancements stay affordable and domestically produced, with the Silverado EV rolling out of Factory ZERO in Detroit, the same plant building its GMC sibling, the Sierra EV. Models/Price: The 2025 Silverado EV offers three trim levels and six configurations. Each has various battery ranges and horsepower. The starting MSRP is $57,095 for the base model, which ranges up to $97,895 for the most range and power. The Work Truck Standard Range ($57,095) delivers 282 miles and 510 horsepower, while the Extended Range models ($69,495 to $89,395) range from 390 to 422 miles. They include the Work Truck Extended, the LT Extended (which I tested) with 645 horsepower, and the RST Extended Range trim with 754 horsepower. The top-of-the-line RST Max Range achieves 492 miles, the longest-range EV Truck on the market. Power/Performance: The charging time is equally impressive, with 350 kW DC fast charging adding 100 miles in 10 minutes. In addition to the power, they are also quick. The Work Truck produces 580 lb-ft of torque, while the LT has 765 lb-ft of torque, and RST gets 785 lb-ft of torque, going from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. The Silverado EV also acts as a mobile generator for home emergency outages. The first thing I noticed after stepping on the pedal of the 2025 Silverado EV LT (Extended Range) was its effortless power delivery. The acceleration was smooth yet punchy, going from 0–60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. The Silverado also features four-wheel steering (including a unique Sidewinder mode for diagonal movement) and adaptive air suspension, making it surprisingly agile for a full-size truck. The dual-motor four-wheel drive produced good traction on various road surfaces, while the Super Cruise Control and silent Ultium powertrain made highway driving a breeze. After one week of driving, I recharged the battery once, which took 20 minutes to add another 200 miles to the 170 kWh battery at a fast-charger station. Competitors: The major competitors to the Silverado EV include: The 2025 GMC Sierra EV (440 miles), the Ford F-150 Lightning (320-mile range), the Tesla Cybertruck (325-362 miles), the Rivian R1T (420 miles), and the Dodge RAM 1500 REV (350 miles). Safety: The Silverado EV is equipped with the Chevy Safety Assist that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane-Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Super Cruise for hands-free highway driving.
