Do you identify as Black/African American? Have you secured an internship with the assistance of the university career center or through the center’s internship stipend program? Have you completed the internship experience Spring 2020 or after? If you answered yes to each of the questions listed above, you may be eligible to participate in a research study. The purpose of this research study is to better understand Black students’ experiences with soft skills development during their internship. Student participants will be asked to engage in three different procedures. First, there will be individual interviews. The interviews will be one-on-one, video-recorded sessions via Zoom. It should take approximately one hour to complete. Secondly, students will be asked to complete journal prompt questions. This will be an opportunity to provide a written narrative in response to research-related questions. The prompts will be typed responses stored on a Microsoft form and should take no longer than 60 minutes. Third, students will be asked to participate in a video-recorded focus group. The focus group session should last one hour. Participants will be asked to review their transcripts for accuracy for both their interview and focus group. Names and other identifying information will be requested as part of the study, but participant identities will not be disclosed. A consent document will be emailed to you if you are selected for the study. Individuals will be contacted at least one week before the interview with additional information about scheduling an interview time and the other procedures. Participants who complete all three research procedures will receive a $50 Amazon eGift card for their time and contribution.
