Fayetteville State Broncos Bringing Fast-Paced, Aggressive Identity to the CIAA

Under Hoehn's leadership, the Broncos have quickly established a distinct playing style that is a departure from the traditional physicality and half-court execution that has defined the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in recent years. Fayetteville State is riding a six-game winning streak and averaging an impressive 100.8 points per game, leading the CIAA with 89.1 points per game – a mark that ranks them in the Top 25 of all Division II basketball.

Hoehn, who previously led Bluefield State to a historic NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, has brought his unique system to Fayetteville State, pairing the program's established identity with an emphasis on relentless pace, early offense, and intense defensive pressure.

At the heart of Fayetteville State's success is a talented roster led by Larry Howell, the current leading scorer in the CIAA and all of Division II HBCU basketball at 20.6 points per game. Howell's production is complemented by the emergence of Ezekiel Cannedy, who is averaging 18.0 points per game and gives the Broncos multiple offensive threats.

As Fayetteville State sits at 12-6 overall and 6-2 in CIAA play, the Broncos remain firmly in the conference title race, blending consistency with their distinct new rhythm.
