Prairie View A&M Faces Challenging 2026 Schedule to Defend SWAC Title

Prairie View A&M University, the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions, are wasting no time in putting together an ambitious 2026 football schedule that will test the mettle of their championship-winning team.

Coming off a breakthrough 2025 season that saw the Panthers capture their first SWAC football title since 2009 and earn a berth in the Celebration Bowl, the team and its first-year head coach Tremaine Jackson are looking to build on their momentum and solidify Prairie View A&M's status as a powerhouse within the HBCU football landscape.

The Panthers will waste no time in setting the tone for the 2026 season, opening on the road against Tarleton State on August 29th. They'll then return home for the highly anticipated Labor Day Classic showdown against in-state rival Texas Southern on September 6th at Panther Stadium on Blackshear Field.

The non-conference slate continues with a trip to take on Baylor on September 12th, followed by a home game against Stephen F. Austin on September 19th.

Once conference play begins, the Panthers will face a gauntlet of familiar SWAC foes, including a marquee neutral-site showdown against Grambling State at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on September 26th. Other key SWAC games include trips to Mississippi Valley State (October 3rd) and Alabama State (November 21st), as well as home games against Southern (October 10th) and Alcorn State (Homecoming, October 17th).
