The NAACP has announced a casting call for A Different World reboot, seeking HBCU students to participate in the new series. The iconic 1980s sitcom, which centered on student life at the fictional Hillman College, is being revived by Warner Bros. Television and is currently in development.

The casting call is open to all currently enrolled students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the United States. Hopeful participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and potentially land a role in the highly anticipated reboot.

Key Takeaway: This casting call represents a unique opportunity for HBCU students to be part of a groundbreaking television series that celebrates the rich culture and experiences of the Black community.

Howard University, one of the most prominent HBCUs in the country, has expressed excitement about the casting call. Howard University President, Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, stated, "A Different World had a profound impact on the perception of HBCUs, and we are thrilled to see it making a comeback. This is a fantastic chance for our students to showcase their talents and be a part of this iconic show's legacy."

The A Different World reboot is being developed by Felicia D. Henderson, a veteran television writer and producer, who has worked on shows such as Fringe and Empire.

The original series, which ran from 1987 to 1993, was a spin-off of The Cosby Show and was praised for its portrayal of student life, social issues, and the HBCU experience.

"This reboot is an exciting opportunity to reintroduce the HBCU experience to a new generation of viewers. We're thrilled to partner with the NAACP to provide a platform for talented HBCU students to showcase their skills and be part of this groundbreaking project." - Felicia D. Henderson, Executive Producer

The casting call is open until June 30th, 2023, and interested students can submit their audition tapes through the NAACP's official website. The selected cast members will be announced later this year, and production for the A Different World reboot is expected to begin in early 2024.

This opportunity is a testament to the enduring impact of A Different World and the continued importance of representation and celebration of the HBCU experience in popular media. HBCUConnect.com, the premier online community for HBCU alumni and supporters, commends the NAACP and the production team for this exciting initiative, which will undoubtedly inspire and empower HBCU students across the nation.
