Andrew Body, HBCU National Player of the Year, Returning to Lead Alabama State Hornets
Posted By: Will Moss on January 31, 2026

In a triumphant homecoming for the Alabama State Hornets, the program has announced that star quarterback Andrew Body will be returning to the team for the upcoming season. This news has sent waves of excitement through the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) community, as Body's dynamic playmaking abilities and impressive leadership will once again grace the gridiron for the Hornets.

Body, a native of Houston, Texas, initially made his mark at Texas Southern University before transferring to Alabama State. Despite missing significant time due to injury in 2024, the HBCU National Player of the Year bounced back in a big way last season, completing 113 of 160 passes for 1,770 yards and an impressive 20 touchdowns against just one interception.

Speaking on Body's decision to return, Hornets head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. praised the quarterback's versatility and leadership, stating, "You look at pieces that would be hard to replace, and he is one of them.

He can do a lot of things with the football, and he has some good leadership capabilities and that's what you're looking for with so many new people in the building.
"

Key Takeaway: The return of Andrew Body, the reigning HBCU National Player of the Year, is a significant boost for the Alabama State Hornets and the entire HBCU football community. His dynamic playmaking abilities and strong leadership will be crucial as the Hornets look to build on their success and compete at the highest level.

To further bolster the Hornets' offense, coach Robinson has brought in veteran HBCU coordinator Tony Hull to lead the unit. This strategic move, coupled with Body's return, promises an exciting and innovative offense that will undoubtedly captivate HBCU fans across the nation.

As the HBCU football landscape continues to evolve, the Alabama State Hornets' retention of Andrew Body stands as a testament to the program's commitment to excellence and its ability to attract and retain top-tier talent. This development not only strengthens the Hornets' position but also serves as a source of pride and inspiration for the entire HBCU community, who eagerly await the upcoming season and the opportunity to witness Body's continued excellence on the field.
