NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 28, 2026 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), one of the premier NCAA Division I athletic conferences for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has announced its weekly honors for men's track and field, and the spotlight shines brightly on two talented student-athletes from HBCU powerhouses.

North Carolina Central Sophomore Zion Amadi Named Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Zion Amadi, a sophomore at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), has been selected as the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Amadi's impressive performances on the track have earned him this prestigious recognition, further solidifying NCCU's reputation as a dominant force in HBCU athletics.

Howard's Sean Wray Earns Men's Field Athlete of the Week Honors

In addition to Amadi's achievement, Howard University graduate student Sean Wray has been named the MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. Wray's outstanding efforts in the field events have contributed to Howard's continued success and prominence within the MEAC conference.

Key Takeaway: The MEAC's recognition of these HBCU student-athletes highlights the remarkable talent and dedication that exists within the HBCU athletic community. These awards showcase the depth of athletic excellence that HBCUs continue to foster, providing a platform for their student-athletes to shine on a regional and national stage.

The MEAC, founded in 1970, has long been a bastion of HBCU pride and excellence in collegiate sports.

With a rich history and tradition of producing outstanding student-athletes, the conference has consistently demonstrated the ability of HBCUs to compete at the highest levels of NCAA competition.

Zion Amadi's selection as the MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the exceptional coaching he has received at NCCU. As a sophomore, Amadi has already made a significant impact on his team's success, and this recognition is sure to inspire him to continue pushing the boundaries of his athletic abilities.

Similarly, Sean Wray's achievement as the MEAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week highlights the depth of talent within the Howard University athletics program. Wray's outstanding performances in the field events have played a crucial role in Howard's overall team success, further cementing the university's reputation as a powerhouse in HBCU sports.

"These weekly honors for our HBCU student-athletes are a true testament to the dedication and hard work they put in day in and day out," said HBCUConnect.com Editor-in-Chief. "The MEAC conference continues to showcase the remarkable talent and resilience of HBCU sports programs, and we are proud to highlight the achievements of these young men as they represent their institutions with pride and excellence."

The recognition of Zion Amadi and Sean Wray by the MEAC is not only a personal accomplishment but also a reflection of the broader HBCU athletic community's success. These awards serve as a reminder of the immense talent and potential that exists within HBCUs, and they inspire the next generation of HBCU student-athletes to strive for greatness both on and off the field.
