Morehouse Maroon Tigers Hold off Tuskegee Golden Tigers in Clash of SIAC Contenders

Morehouse Maroon Tigers Hold off Tuskegee Golden Tigers in Clash of SIAC Contenders
Posted By: Will Moss on February 01, 2026

ATLANTA — In a highly anticipated matchup between two of the top men's basketball programs in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers protected their home court with a 77–69 victory over the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers at the Frank L. Forbes Arena.

With the Maroon Tigers entering the day in first place in the SIAC East Division and the Golden Tigers pacing the SIAC West, Morehouse relied on timely three-point shooting and a steady parade to the free-throw line to extend their impressive run of form. The team has now won nine straight games in 2026 and boasts a 9–1 record over the last 10 games, while remaining unbeaten in the SIAC East Division (8–0).

Key Takeaway: This cross-division showdown between two HBCU powerhouses highlighted the deep talent and fierce competition within the SIAC, one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences for African American student-athletes.

The afternoon's festivities also doubled as a celebration of Morehouse basketball legacy, as nine former Maroon Tigers were inducted into the Basketball Den of Honor at halftime in front of an announced crowd of 1,637 supporters.

Standout Performances

For Morehouse, junior guard Elijah Jones led the way with a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 showing from the free-throw line.

Senior forward Tyrone Williams added a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Jalen Brown chipped in with 14 points.

On the Tuskegee side, sophomore guard Malik Johnson paced the Golden Tigers with 20 points, and junior forward Devin Mitchell contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds.

"This was a hard-fought battle between two of the best teams in the SIAC," said Morehouse head coach James Hines. "I'm proud of the way our guys competed and executed down the stretch to secure the victory in front of our home crowd."
