HBCU Baseball Standouts Spring Hill College Falcon Take On Florida Tech in Season Opener

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Spring Hill College Falcons, a storied Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball program, faced off against the Florida Tech Panthers in their season-opening matchup on the diamond. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Falcons fell to the Panthers by a score of 8-2.

The Falcons, who compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), were determined to make a statement in their first game of the 2026 campaign. However, the Panthers, a formidable opponent from the Sunshine State Conference, proved too much for the Falcons to handle on this particular day.

Though the final score may not have been in their favor, the Falcons showcased their grit and determination throughout the contest. Junior outfielder Jamal Watkins led the way for the Falcons, going 2-for-4 at the plate and driving in one of the team's two runs. The Falcons will have an opportunity to avenge this defeat when they face the Panthers again tomorrow, as the two teams are set to play a doubleheader. The first game of the twin bill is scheduled to start at 11 A.M. eastern.
