In a thrilling showdown between MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) foes, the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Eagles women's basketball team handed the previously undefeated Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Hawks their first conference loss, winning 69-62 in Durham, North Carolina.

The story of the game was undoubtedly the remarkable performance of NCCU graduate student forward Aniya Finger, who put the team on her back with a monster double-double of 30 points and 12 rebounds. Finger's dominant effort proved to be the difference-maker as the Eagles secured their first MEAC win of the season, improving their conference record to 1-4 and their overall record to 4-14.

The Hawks, who came into the game with a stellar 12-11 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in MEAC play, led by as many as 13 points (30-17) in the second quarter. However, the resilient Eagles refused to go away, ending the first half on a 17-5 run to pull within a single point (35-34) at the half.

"This team never stops fighting, and that's what I love about them," said NCCU head coach Trisha Stafford-Odom. "Aniya Finger is the heart and soul of this squad, and she showed why today with an incredible performance."

The second half belonged to the Eagles, as they took the lead for good on a bucket by graduate student forward Morgan Callahan (14 points) with two minutes left in the third quarter.

Finger then drained a crucial three-pointer to open a 53-47 advantage for NCCU heading into the final period.

Despite a valiant effort from the Hawks, led by Brianna Barnes (15 points), Desi Taylor (12 points), and Ashanti Lynch (11 points), the Eagles were able to hold on for the hard-fought 69-62 victory.
