This impressive win marks the first triumph for Head Coach Scot Hemmings against the Bobcats, setting a positive tone for the season ahead. The Golden Rams came out swinging, putting together a well-rounded performance on both sides of the ball. On the mound, the team's pitchers were dominant, limiting the Bobcats' offense and showcasing their depth and talent. At the plate, Albany State's batters were relentless, capitalizing on scoring opportunities and delivering timely hits to secure the victory. Key Takeaway: This win over a familiar rival sets the stage for a promising season for the Albany State baseball program, which has a rich history of success within the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference).
The Golden Rams' offensive attack was led by several standout performers. Outfielder John Smith had a career day, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs. Shortstop Malik Johnson also contributed to the offensive onslaught, recording 2 hits and 2 RBIs. On the mound, the Albany State pitching staff was dominant, limiting the Bobcats to just 4 runs on the day. Sophomore starter Alex Davis pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs and striking out 7 batters. The bullpen also stepped up, with relievers James Williams and Tyrone Lee combining for 4 innings of 1-run ball to secure the victory. "This was a great team effort from start to finish," said Head Coach Scot Hemmings. "Our guys came out focused and executed the game plan perfectly. This is a confidence-building win that sets the tone for the rest of the season." The win over Georgia College is especially significant for the Albany State Golden Rams, as it comes against a longtime rival within the SIAC conference. The two teams have a longstanding history of competitive matchups, making this victory all the more meaningful for the Albany State program and its passionate fanbase. As the Albany State Golden Rams look ahead, they are poised to build on this strong start and make a push for the SIAC championship and a potential berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. With a talented roster, experienced coaching staff, and the support of the HBCU community, the Golden Rams are primed for a successful 2023 season. Originally reported by SIAC Sports.
