Alabama State University Quarterback Andrew Body Returns to Lead Hornets in 2023 Season

Alabama State University Quarterback Andrew Body Returns to Lead Hornets in 2023 Season
Posted By: Will Moss on February 07, 2026

Alabama State University (ASU) is celebrating the return of quarterback Andrew Body to the Hornets football team for the 2023 season. Body, who was previously named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, will lead the ASU offense as they look to build on their success from last year.

Body, a rising junior, had a standout 2021 campaign, throwing for 2,375 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 559 yards and 8 touchdowns. His dual-threat abilities made him one of the most exciting players in HBCU football and earned him national recognition.

Key Takeaway: The return of Andrew Body is a major boost for the Alabama State Hornets as they aim to contend for a SWAC championship and secure a spot in the Celebration Bowl.

Alabama State University, located in Montgomery, Alabama, is a historically black university with a rich athletic tradition. The Hornets football team competes in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), one of the premier HBCU athletic conferences in the country.

Head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. expressed his excitement about Body's return, stating, "Andrew is a special talent, and we're thrilled to have him back leading our offense.

His experience and playmaking ability will be invaluable as we work to build on our success from last season."

The Hornets are coming off a strong 2022 campaign, where they finished with a record of 7-4 and earned a berth in the Celebration Bowl, the annual championship game between the MEAC and SWAC conference champions. With Body back in the fold, the Hornets will be poised to make another run at the SWAC title and a spot in the prestigious Celebration Bowl.

"Andrew's leadership and playmaking ability are essential to our success. We're excited to see him take the field again and lead our team to new heights."

HBCUConnect.com is thrilled to share this news with our community. The return of Andrew Body to Alabama State University is a testament to the talent and dedication of HBCU student-athletes. As we look ahead to the 2023 season, we expect the Hornets to be a force to be reckoned with in the SWAC and on the national HBCU football landscape.
