The Memorial Day Getaway's Returns for Its 18th Annual Celebration?

The Memorial Day Getaway

A Black Luxury Forward Memorial Day Experience Headlined by 2 Chainz

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic | Memorial Day Weekend

The Memorial Day Getaway returns this Memorial Day Weekend for its 18th Annual celebration, continuing its legacy as one of the longest-running international Memorial Day travel experiences for Black professionals and culturally connected travelers from across the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, and Europe.

Hosted exclusively in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic since its inception, the Memorial Day Getaway has spent nearly two decades introducing travelers to a destination often overlooked in favor of more commercialized resort cities. Puerto Plata remains the foundation of the experience, offering rich culture, coastal beauty, and an authentic sense of place that keeps guests returning year after year.

This year’s edition delivers a six-day, five-night international group travel experience featuring resort accommodations, elevated nightlife, cultural immersion, and global Black community, along with luxury options and premium amenities available, including private villas for guests seeking an enhanced stay.

Built for travelers who value connection, culture, and intentional celebration, the Memorial Day Getaway offers resort amenities, exclusive day parties, themed nightlife, and optional off-site excursions curated through long-standing local partnerships, allowing guests to experience Puerto Plata beyond the resort.

As the event enters its 18th year, it continues to evolve while staying rooted in the spirit and integrity that built its reputation.

Music anchors the Memorial Day Getaway experience. This year is headlined by a live performance from Grammy Award winning artist 2 Chainz, setting the tone for a weekend centered on confidence, success, and global Black culture.

Across the weekend, DJs, hosts, and tastemakers curate a soundtrack spanning hip-hop, Afrobeats, R&B, Caribbean, and international sounds from daytime pool parties to high energy nightlife events.

Guests seeking deeper engagement may participate in an optional volunteerism excursion with Dove Youth Development Center, a trusted local organization serving 140 - 160 youth ages 6 - 18 from seven underserved neighborhoods in Puerto Plata.

Dove Youth Development provides after-school programming, mentorship, and a safe space for youth who might otherwise face exploitation or unsafe economic pressures. The partnership has been a meaningful part of the Memorial Day Getaway for many years, with guests choosing to return annually to serve and connect.

HBCU culture is central to the Memorial Day Getaway. All founders are alumni of Southern University in Baton Rouge, and this yearʼs headliner, 2 Chainz, is an alumnus of Alabama State University. The event proudly celebrates HBCU legacy, Black educational excellence, and cultural leadership, with dedicated outreach to HBCU-focused media outlets.
