HBCU powerhouse Virginia Union continued its impressive season, securing a 72-69 road victory over Bowie State in a crucial CIAA matchup on Saturday. The nationally-ranked Panthers improved their record to an impressive 23-3 overall, solidifying their position at the top of the conference race.

Despite facing challenges at the free-throw line, where they shot just 18-of-35, and losing the rebounding battle 34-29, the resilient Panthers found a way to grind out the win. Leading the way for the Panthers were Bobby Gardner with 13 points, Malachi Dark and Tahj Harding with 11 points each, and Travis Vaughn and Elijah Scranton with 10 points apiece.

"Anytime you can struggle from the free throw line 18-35, get beat on the boards 34-29, and still get a win I will take it," said VUU Head Men's Basketball Coach Jay Butler. "It was also good to see the VUU fans travel to watch us play on the road on Valentine's Day. It's tough to win games on the road but I thought the guys really locked in defensively in the second half to get another solid road win."
