$20 Million Tubi Investment Showcases Rising HBCU Filmmakers on Streaming Platform

$20 Million Tubi Investment Showcases Rising HBCU Filmmakers on Streaming Platform
Posted By: Will Moss on February 16, 2026

Tubi, the leading ad-supported streaming platform, has announced a groundbreaking $20 million investment to amplify the voices of Black student filmmakers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This landmark partnership with the HBCU First LOOK Film Festival will bring over 100 films created by HBCU-affiliated directors, writers, and producers to Tubi's expansive digital catalog.

The initiative, which launched during Black History Month, marks a significant milestone for HBCU creatives who have traditionally faced barriers in the film and television industry.

Tubi's dedicated "HBCU First Look" streaming hub will feature a curated selection of documentaries, scripted projects, and experimental works from institutions such as Morehouse College, Howard University, Florida A&M University, and Spelman College.

Key Takeaway: This $20 million investment by Tubi provides a powerful platform for HBCU filmmakers to share their unique stories and perspectives with a national audience, offering both exposure and sustainable opportunities for independent artists.

The partnership was first announced in November at the annual HBCU First LOOK Film Festival awards ceremony, where Sheila Eldridge, a Howard University graduate and CEO of Miles Ahead Entertainment, described the initiative as "a milestone for Black creatives."

Among the highlighted selections is "HIM+," a first-place short film written by Florida A&M alumnus Chazriq Clarke. Other featured projects include a documentary about the 15th Annual Café Mocha Salute THEM Awards, directed by Lee Solomon, and experimental pieces such as "Echo Of 22" by L. Palmer and "Timeless" by Dr. Shaina Thomas.

Tubi's investment in HBCU filmmakers is part of a broader effort to connect with emerging creators earlier in their careers, providing a free, widely accessible platform to showcase their work and unlock new opportunities.

"This partnership reflects Tubi's commitment to amplifying diverse voices and creating pathways for underrepresented filmmakers to share their stories with a national audience," said a Tubi spokesperson.

HBCUConnect.com commends Tubi's visionary investment in the HBCU film community. By providing a high-profile platform and sustainable opportunities, this initiative will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of Black creatives to pursue their dreams in the film and television industry. The exposure and resources offered by this partnership will have a transformative impact on HBCU students and alumni, empowering them to share their unique perspectives and narratives with the world.
