The hidden risks of using Google’s Blogger platform

The hidden risks of using Google’s Blogger platform
Posted By: Joel Savage on February 16, 2026

After reviewing a detailed Site Checker report, I discovered that many of my blog’s URLs were taking far too long to load. As a result, readers abandoned the pages before they even opened. This wasn’t a minor inconvenience; it was a complete barrier to access. When a platform behaves this way, it doesn’t just affect traffic; it undermines the writer’s work, credibility, and connection with readers.

The report revealed that several articles and label pages across different years and topics were practically inaccessible. Some links stalled indefinitely, while others redirected or simply failed to load. When readers encounter this kind of obstruction, they naturally give up and leave. No writer should have to fight their own platform just to make their content visible.

This experience raises a serious question: Is Google’s Blogger still a reliable platform for writers, journalists, and creators who depend on stability and accessibility? Before choosing Blogger, there are several crucial factors every user should consider.

First, Blogger offers no real customer support. When something goes wrong, whether it’s slow-loading pages, indexing failures, or sudden drops in traffic, there is no direct helpdesk to contact. Users are left to troubleshoot alone, relying on forums and guesswork. For anyone publishing important work, this lack of support can be devastating.

Second, Blogger gives users very limited control over technical issues. If the platform throttles your pages, delays loading, or mishandles redirects, you cannot access the server or backend to fix the problem. You are entirely dependent on Google’s internal systems, which operate without transparency. This means your content can be affected by issues you cannot see and cannot correct.

Third, Blogger’s infrastructure is outdated compared to modern platforms.

While it is free and easy to use, it lacks the robustness needed for serious journalism, advocacy, or long-term archiving. Slow loading, broken labels, and indexing delays are common complaints among users. For writers who rely on consistent visibility, these weaknesses can severely limit reach and impact.

Fourth, Blogger offers no guarantee of long-term preservation. Google has a history of shutting down services without warning. For creators who want their work to survive beyond their lifetime, relying on a platform with an uncertain future is a significant risk. A writer’s legacy deserves a stable home, not a temporary one.

Finally, Blogger’s free nature comes with hidden costs. When you do not pay for a platform, you also do not control it. Your content can be deprioritized, throttled, or affected by algorithmic decisions without explanation. For anyone publishing sensitive topics, investigative work, or advocacy, this lack of control can become a serious obstacle.

My experience with slow-loading URLs and abandoned readers is a reminder that choosing a platform is not a small decision. Writers deserve a space where their work is accessible, respected, and protected. Before committing to Blogger, every creator should weigh these risks carefully and consider whether the platform truly supports their goals.

Google manipulated more than 69 URLs, and since the articles couldn't open, readers abandoned them. Below are some of the URLS:
