Fayetteville State Women's Track & Field Dominates CIAA for Sixth Straight Indoor Title
|
Posted By: Will Moss on February 17, 2026 The Fayetteville State Broncos women's track and field team has once again proven their dominance in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), claiming their sixth consecutive CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. This remarkable feat solidifies their position as the premier program in the conference, surpassing the impressive 14-year streak held by St. Augustine's from 1997 to 2010. The Lady Broncos amassed an impressive 131 points to narrowly edge out Claflin University, who finished second with 122 points, and Winston-Salem State University in third with 112 points. While Claflin showcased their dominance in the individual sprinting events, capturing 57 combined points in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, Fayetteville State's prowess in the distance events, where they scored 64 combined points in the 800m, mile, and 3000m, proved to be a key factor in their victory. Key Takeaway: Fayetteville State's depth and versatility across multiple event categories were the driving forces behind their sixth consecutive CIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, further solidifying their status as the premier program in the conference.
The Broncos' success in the field events was also instrumental, as they outpointed Claflin 40-24 in those disciplines. While the Panthers boasted two top-three finishers in the triple jump, including a first-place finish by Jhnyia Knuckles, it was not enough to overcome Fayetteville State's overall team performance. This triumph adds to the Broncos' already impressive accomplishments, as they have also won the last eight CIAA Women's Cross Country Championships, the second-longest streak in conference history, trailing only St. Augustine's 10-year run from 1980 to 1989. "Our student-athletes have worked tirelessly to maintain this level of excellence, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication and achievements," said Fayetteville State head coach Inez Turner. "This sixth straight CIAA Indoor title is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our entire team."
