McDonald's Invests $1 Million in HBCU Students Through Black & Positively Golden Scholarship

ATLANTA, GA - In a landmark move to support the next generation of leaders from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), McDonald's has announced a $1 million investment in its Black & Positively Golden Scholarship program. This initiative, now in its third year, aims to empower and uplift HBCU students across the country.

The Black & Positively Golden Scholarship, administered by the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, will provide 300 HBCU students with $5,000 each to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, and other expenses. This vital funding comes at a critical time, as many HBCU students and their families continue to face financial challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Takeaway: McDonald's $1 million investment in the Black & Positively Golden Scholarship program demonstrates the company's steadfast commitment to supporting the success and empowerment of HBCU students.

"As a proud graduate of an HBCU myself, I know firsthand the transformative power of these institutions," said Marty Gillis, McDonald's U.S. Marketing Director. "We're honored to partner with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to provide these scholarships and help open doors for the next generation of Black leaders."

The scholarship recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, community involvement, and a demonstrated commitment to making a positive impact.

In addition to the financial support, scholars will also have access to mentorship and professional development opportunities through the program.

"HBCUs have long been incubators of Black excellence, producing leaders who have shaped the course of our nation," said Dr. Harry L. Williams, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. "We're grateful to McDonald's for this investment, which will empower hundreds of HBCU students to realize their full potential and make a lasting difference in their communities."

The Black & Positively Golden Scholarship is part of McDonald's broader commitment to supporting the HBCU community. In addition to this scholarship program, the company has also provided funding for HBCU culinary programs, sponsored the Honda Battle of the Bands, and partnered with various HBCU institutions on recruitment and career development initiatives.

For the HBCU community, this investment from McDonald's serves as a powerful testament to the value and importance of these institutions. By supporting HBCU students, McDonald's is not only helping to transform individual lives but also contributing to the broader ecosystem of Black excellence and leadership that HBCUs have long fostered.
