Aggies Forge Ahead: North Carolina A&T Announces Revamped Football Schedule, Showcasing HBCU Collaboration
|
Posted By: Will Moss on February 19, 2026 Greensboro, NC - The North Carolina A&T Aggies, one of the crown jewels of the HBCU athletic landscape, have announced a key change to their highly anticipated 2023 football schedule, signaling a continued commitment to engaging the broader HBCU community. The much-anticipated matchup between the Aggies and the Norfolk State Spartans has been postponed, as Norfolk State "opted to play against another opponent," according to a statement released by North Carolina A&T. In their place, the Aggies will now host the Chicago State Cougars, a first-year program led by former Florida Memorial head coach Bobby Rome II. Key Takeaway: This schedule change underscores North Carolina A&T's commitment to supporting the growth and development of HBCU athletic programs, even those in their infancy, like Chicago State.
The Cougars will make the trip to Greensboro's Truist Stadium on October 17th, while the Aggies will reciprocate the visit in 2027, traveling to SeatGeek Stadium in suburban Chicago. "We're excited to welcome Chicago State to our schedule," said North Carolina A&T Athletics Director Earl Hilton. "This is an opportunity to showcase our program and support the continued expansion of HBCU football." Chicago State, in their inaugural season, will face at least two HBCU opponents in 2023, including a home matchup against another of Rome's former teams, Virginia-Lynchburg, on November 21st. The Cougars are also slated to host Norfolk State on September 26th, though Norfolk State's football schedule does not currently reflect that date. "This schedule change is a testament to the strong bonds and collaborative spirit within the HBCU athletic community. By embracing new programs like Chicago State, North Carolina A&T is demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the growth and success of HBCU sports." HBCUConnect Perspective: This story resonates deeply with the HBCU community, as it showcases the spirit of camaraderie and support that defines the HBCU experience. North Carolina A&T, a powerhouse in HBCU athletics, has once again proven its willingness to lend a hand to emerging programs, fostering an environment of mutual growth and success. This move not only benefits the Cougars but also underscores the broader mission of HBCUs to uplift and empower one another, a testament to the unbreakable bond that exists within this vibrant and dynamic community.
