Posted By: HBCU CONNECT on February 18, 2026 Check out this video from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina! ✨ A Meeting of the Minds: Honoring Langston Hughes ✨ 📅 February 26 | ⏰ 6:00 PM EST 📍 Allen University Join us for a powerful evening as Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Allen University’s English Department, the Langston Hughes Poetry Center, and a lineup of super poets come together to celebrate the legacy of Langston Hughes—poet, scholar, novelist, playwright, and champion of true civility. Hughes used his voice, intellect, and artistry to confront the realities of diversity, equity, identity, and social justice. Tonight, we honor that legacy through poetry, reflection, and community. 🗓 Event Flow 🍇 5:15 PM — Reception Location: Langston Hughes Poetry Center, Humanities Building (One short block behind the male residence hall) 🏛 6:00 PM — Program & Poetry Contest The event moves to the Waverly Building for a viewing of the Emanuel Nine memorial busts, followed by the main program in the auditorium, featuring: A brief introduction to the Langston Hughes Poetry Center Insights on Langston Hughes’ historic affiliation with Omega Psi Phi An all‑out poetry contest featuring student, alumni, and community poets 🎤 Open Mic + Cash Prizes Bring your snaps, your energy, and your voice! Cash prizes for the Poetry Contest If time allows, we’ll close with an open mic session for all our hidden poets ready to hit the stage 🎟 FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Please register using the QR code if you plan to participate in the contest.
