Cam Newton Turns BET Gig Into HBCU Tailgate Tour, Spotlighting the Culture and Traditions of Historically Black Colleges

Cam Newton, the former NFL MVP, is turning his brief stint on television into a new opportunity to celebrate the vibrant culture and traditions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Following the cancellation of 106 & Sports after a single season on BET+, Newton has announced that he will reinvest his earnings from the show into a six-stop college football tailgate tour set to take place this fall.

The project, titled the "4th & 1 with Cam Newton College Tailgate Experience," will focus on showcasing the unique attributes that make HBCUs so special, including their student-athletes, academic programs, alumni, and the unparalleled gameday experience. Newton, who took a different path through Florida, Blinn College in Texas, and ultimately Auburn University, where he won the Heisman Trophy and a national championship in 2010, is driven by a personal commitment to HBCUs.

The 106 & Sports show, filmed in Atlanta, featured Newton alongside co-host Ashley Nicole Moss and centered heavily on HBCU sports throughout its eight-episode run.

According to the release, the tour will generate new video content for Newton's 4th and 1 podcast while spotlighting standout athletic programs and exploring the "heritage" of each campus. Four of the six stops are expected to be at HBCUs, with a full schedule to be unveiled soon.
