Livingstone Blue Bears Shock WSSU Rams in Thrilling HBCU Matchup

Livingstone Blue Bears Shock WSSU Rams in Thrilling HBCU Matchup
Posted By: Will Moss on February 22, 2026

SALISBURY, NC - The Livingstone College Blue Bears just delivered a major upset in the HBCU basketball world, taking down the No. 15 Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) Rams in a hard-fought battle at New Trent Gymnasium. In front of a raucous crowd of 575, the Blue Bears emerged victorious with a final score of 61-54.

The game was a true display of HBCU basketball at its finest, with both teams leaving it all on the court. Livingstone came out strong, leading 19-14 after the first quarter and never letting the moment get the best of them. WSSU briefly took the lead in the second quarter, but the game remained a grind throughout.

Key Takeaway: This upset victory by the Livingstone Blue Bears is a testament to the depth and competitiveness of HBCU basketball programs. The CIAA conference just got a lot more dangerous heading into the upcoming tournament.

The fourth quarter proved to be the defining moment, as the Blue Bears outscored the Rams 18-11 to seal the victory. Jasiyah Crawford led the way for Livingstone with 20 points and four three-pointers, while Ny'Asia Green added 13 points and made some key plays in transition.

Standout center Breasia Coit dominated the paint with 21 rebounds and 6 blocks.

On the WSSU side, Alana Biosse paced the Rams with 16 points and four three-pointers off the bench. Breonna Roaf contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Maia Charles fought hard with 19 rebounds to go with her 9 points. However, the Rams' cold shooting, going 21-of-83 (25.3%) from the field and 4-of-19 (21.1%) from three, ultimately proved to be their downfall.

"Livingstone's defense kept WSSU's attack uncomfortable all afternoon, and LC made enough winning plays late to pull off the upset."

HBCUConnect Perspective

This thrilling HBCU matchup between Livingstone and WSSU is a prime example of the exceptional talent and competitiveness within the CIAA conference. The Blue Bears' victory over the highly-ranked Rams serves as a reminder that HBCU basketball programs are not to be underestimated. This upset will undoubtedly shake up the CIAA tournament landscape, making the upcoming competition even more exciting for HBCU fans and alumni. Moments like these showcase the incredible depth of HBCU athletics and the passion that drives these student-athletes to excel on the court.
