Fayetteville State's Broncos Soar Past Shaw, Solidifying CIAA Dominance

Fayetteville State
Posted By: Will Moss on February 22, 2026

In a thrilling CIAA matchup on Saturday night, the Fayetteville State University Broncos showcased their championship pedigree, rallying past the Shaw University Bears to extend their winning streak to an impressive 14 games. This victory was a testament to the Broncos' resilience and the unwavering support of the HBCU community.

The Shaw Bears, fueled by the energy of their passionate home crowd, came out swinging in the first half, building a 53-44 lead at the break. Their sharp shooting and commanding presence in the paint had the Broncos on their heels. However, Fayetteville State's veteran leadership and championship experience would soon shine through.

Key Takeaway: Fayetteville State's ability to weather the storm and mount a comeback showcased the depth and balance that sets them apart from most CIAA opponents.

Larry Howell led the charge for the Broncos, delivering a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double with three steals and a block. His physicality inside and perimeter efficiency ignited the Broncos' second-half surge.

Guards Ezekiel Cannedy and Terrell Williams also shone, with Cannedy pouring in 22 points and Williams adding 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

While Shaw's stars, Dreveon Scott, Isaiah Buckley, and Alijah England, put on an impressive display in the first half, the Broncos' relentless defensive pressure and efficient scoring ultimately proved too much. Fayetteville State outscored Shaw 57-36 in the second half, showcasing their championship pedigree and cementing their status as one of the hottest teams in the CIAA.

"This win is a testament to the resilience and championship experience of our Broncos," said a proud HBCU Connect fan. "As the CIAA Tournament approaches, Fayetteville State has positioned themselves as the team to beat, and the HBCU community is rallying behind them."

With the CIAA Tournament just around the corner, Fayetteville State enters the postseason on a 14-game winning streak, undefeated in CIAA South play, and solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with. As the HBCU community eagerly anticipates the tournament, the Broncos' dominant performance against Shaw has only fueled the excitement and pride of HBCU supporters nationwide.
