MACON, Ga. — The Albany State University Golden Rams softball team put on a dominant performance on the road Friday, sweeping a non-conference doubleheader against Wesleyan College with impressive wins of 8-4 in Game 1 and 11-2 in Game 2.

Led by a balanced offensive attack and solid pitching, the Albany State Golden Rams showcased their strength and resilience as they continue to build momentum this season. This sweep is a testament to the team's hard work and dedication, qualities that are often hallmarks of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) like Albany State University.

Key Takeaway: The Albany State Golden Rams' dominant performance in Macon demonstrates the competitive spirit and athletic excellence that are deeply rooted in the HBCU community.

In the opening game, the Golden Rams jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, cruising to an 8-4 victory. Standout performances came from Zaniya Mathis, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs, and Tiffany McWilliams, who pitched a complete game and struck out 7 batters.

The second game was an even more lopsided affair, as the Golden Rams offense exploded for 11 runs in a 11-2 triumph. Essence Pulliam led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and 3 RBIs.

The pitching duo of Brianna Singleton and Marissa Courson combined to limit Wesleyan to just 2 runs on the day.

This doubleheader sweep is a significant accomplishment for the Albany State Golden Rams, who are looking to build on their success and make a deep run in the upcoming Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) tournament. As an HBCU institution, Albany State's athletic programs hold a special place in the hearts of alumni and supporters within the broader HBCU community.

"This was a great team effort from start to finish. Our players showed a lot of heart and determination, and I'm proud of the way they competed today," said Albany State head coach Erica Davis.
