WSSU Rams Roar to Victory in CIAA Flag Football Opener

Posted By: Will Moss on February 24, 2026 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) Rams, the reigning CIAA (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) champions in women's flag football, wasted no time in asserting their dominance as they kicked off the 2026 season with a pair of convincing victories over Chowan University and Virginia Wesleyan University on February 21st. In the opening game, the Rams showcased their defensive prowess, defeating Chowan 37-6. The relentless Rams' defense set the tone, recording seven sacks and three interceptions, and limiting Chowan to just 29 net rushing yards. Standout performances came from Skyy Simmons, who registered eight total tackles and four sacks, and Tyeisha Gist and Iman Rashid, who each recorded an interception. On the offensive side, the Rams utilized a two-quarterback system, with Myla Hoover throwing for 109 yards and three touchdowns, and Chakira Generette adding 79 yards and another score. Leah Bowman was the standout receiver, scoring three touchdowns on three catches for 30 yards. Jayla Jackson-Forde also contributed a 61-yard touchdown reception as the Rams amassed 188 passing yards. In the second game, the Rams continued their dominant performance, defeating Virginia Wesleyan 39-6. The Rams' offense was firing on all cylinders, totaling 277 yards, including 193 passing yards, and six passing touchdowns. Hoover shone again, throwing for 148 yards and four touchdowns, while Generette added 45 yards and two more scores.
