HBCU Wrestlers Make Historic Strides at NCAA Super Regionals

HBCU Wrestlers Make Historic Strides at NCAA Super Regionals
Posted By: Will Moss on February 24, 2026

In a groundbreaking moment for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) wrestling, the NCAA Super Regionals this past weekend saw student-athletes from Delaware State University and Allen University leave their mark on the national stage.

For the first time in NCAA history, all three divisions of women's wrestling - Division I, Division II, and Division III - competed together at the same regional event. This raised the stakes and amplified the pressure, as the field was deeper and the margin for error smaller than ever before.

Key Takeaway: The combined divisional format of this year's Super Regionals put HBCU wrestlers on a bigger national stage than ever before, showcasing the growth and potential of HBCU women's wrestling programs.

Despite the heightened competition, the HBCU wrestlers rose to the occasion.

At Delaware State University, Icart Galumette (117 pounds) earned a third-place finish and a national qualifying spot, while Louise Juitt (145 pounds) reached the championship final - an impressive feat against the best wrestlers from across all three NCAA divisions.

Over at Allen University, a Division II program, Isis Severe (131 pounds) secured a third-place finish and a national qualifying spot, further solidifying Allen's status as a force to be reckoned with in the postseason.

"For a Division II program still building its national profile, that result carries real weight. Allen University women's wrestling is no longer a program people overlook in the postseason."

The significance of these accomplishments goes far beyond the individual results. By placing in this historic, combined divisional field, the HBCU wrestlers have earned their programs unprecedented national exposure, credibility, and recruiting visibility - a vital boost for the continued growth of HBCU wrestling.

With nationals still on the horizon, the HBCU community can take immense pride in the strides made by these student-athletes. Their performances have not only put HBCU wrestling on the map but have also demonstrated the depth of talent and dedication within these programs. As the sport continues to evolve, the future looks bright for HBCU wrestlers to make their mark on the national stage.

HBCUConnect's Perspective: The historic achievements of Delaware State and Allen University wrestlers at the NCAA Super Regionals are a testament to the rising prominence of HBCU athletics programs. These results showcase the caliber of talent and coaching within HBCU wrestling, and they serve as a powerful statement that HBCU student-athletes are worthy of the national spotlight. As the HBCU community continues to rally behind its student-athletes, moments like these inspire pride and instill a sense of boundless potential for the future.
