Dillard Dining by Sodexo Celebrates Greek Organizations On Campus
|
Posted By: Jennifer Toone Corrigan on February 25, 2026 Dillard Dining by Sodexo continues to play an active role in honoring Greek organizations across campus, hosting Founders’ and Charter Day celebrations throughout the academic year inside the university’s dining hall. What began in January 2025 with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Founders’ Day has grown into an ongoing partnership that highlights the presence and impact of Divine Nine organizations at Dillard University. Rather than limiting recognition to formal campus events, Dining Services works directly with each organization to bring their celebrations into the dining hall — a central gathering space where students naturally come together. Planning for each celebration typically begins two to three weeks in advance. Dining leadership meets with the organization to confirm the agenda, attendance, and timing within a designated meal period. From there, the team coordinates staffing, preparation, and service to ensure the celebration runs smoothly while regular dining operations continue uninterrupted. “Our front of house supervisors, leads, cooks, and student workers are usually the core team handling these celebrations,” said Devon Jones, Operations Manager at Dillard University. “Everyone pitches in and we balance the prep and service needs the same way we do for any elevated catering event, with extra attention on timing so we can be present and supportive during the strolls and recognition moments.” Recent celebrations have included: - Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in recognition of its January 9 national founding at Howard University in 1914. - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., founded January 15, 1908, with the Beta Upsilon Chapter chartered at Dillard University on October 29, 1938. - Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., founded January 16, 1920, with the Dillard chapter chartered on January 21. During these celebrations, members gather in the dining hall, stroll, perform brief step shows, and share time together while fellow students and staff look on. The result is a shared campus experience that extends beyond the organizations themselves. “Celebrating these moments inside the dining hall truly brings the campus together,” Jones said. “Greek life is a cornerstone of HBCU culture. When students join a Divine Nine organization, they’re gaining more than letters — they’re gaining a lifelong family. Here in the dining hall, we want to be that home away from home. We want our students to know that we see them, we celebrate them, and that they are family here.” Jones added that when organizations arrive, the atmosphere shifts. “You can feel the energy change. Students light up, staff get involved, and it becomes a shared moment for everyone. That’s why we continue creating these celebrations right here where community happens.” The next upcoming observance supported by Dillard Dining will be Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Charter Day on March 9, as the university continues recognizing Greek organizations throughout the year.
