Sonic Boom of the South Joins 'MICHAEL' Biopic Celebration: Showcasing HBCU Artistry on the National Stage

In a captivating display of HBCU pride and talent, the Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South has officially joined the Lionsgate's "MICHAEL CELEBRATES: Legacy, Artistry, Culture" campaign, promoting the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, MICHAEL.

The journey to this prestigious partnership began with a electrifying halftime performance at the 2026 HBCU Legacy Bowl, where the Sonic Boom delivered a seamless medley of Michael Jackson's greatest hits, including "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Liberian Girl," "Jam," and "Leave Me Alone." The precision, staging, and MJ-inspired visuals immediately caught the attention of fans and industry insiders alike, sparking speculation that the band might be part of a larger marketing campaign for the highly anticipated film.

The confirmation came just days later, as Lionsgate formally launched the "MICHAEL" X HBCU Marching Bands Initiative with a dedicated campaign video featuring Florida A&M University's Marching "100".

The significance of this partnership extends far beyond the entertainment industry. As the premier online community for HBCU alumni and supporters, HBCUConnect.com recognizes the profound impact this collaboration can have on the HBCU community. By highlighting the artistry, talent, and legacy of HBCU marching bands, the "MICHAEL" initiative shines a spotlight on the rich cultural heritage that has long been a cornerstone of the HBCU experience.

"This partnership is a testament to the enduring influence and importance of HBCUs in shaping the cultural landscape. The Sonic Boom of the South's inclusion in the 'MICHAEL' campaign not only celebrates the legacy of Michael Jackson but also the trailblazing spirit that defines the HBCU community.
