Promising Lincoln University Sprinter Kevaughn Goldson Tragically Killed in Domestic Dispute

Promising Lincoln University Sprinter Kevaughn Goldson Tragically Killed in Domestic Dispute
Posted By: Will Moss on February 26, 2026

Jefferson City, MO - The HBCU community is mourning the loss of a young life this week after a devastating incident involving a student-athlete from Lincoln University. Kevaughn Goldson, a 23-year-old member of the school's track and field team, was killed early Monday morning in what authorities are calling a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

According to the Jefferson City Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance near the Lincoln University campus around 1:09 AM on Monday and found Goldson with multiple stab wounds. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. Goldson's girlfriend, Denita Jackson, who is also a Lincoln University track athlete, was arrested at the scene and later charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Key Takeaway: This devastating incident is a tragic loss for the Lincoln University community and the broader HBCU athletic landscape. Goldson was a promising young sprinter with a bright future, and his untimely death has shaken his teammates, coaches, and all who knew him.

In court documents obtained by local media, Jackson claimed she acted in self-defense, stating that Goldson had kicked her in the stomach and began choking her after she returned home and discovered him in her roommate's locked bedroom. She said she reached for a knife under the bed and stabbed him before calling 911.

However, prosecutors have moved forward with formal charges against Jackson, suggesting the investigation has determined the incident was not a simple case of self-defense.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not provided any additional details on the specific circumstances leading to Goldson's death.

"This is a tragic situation, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Kevaughn's family and friends, as well as our entire Lincoln University community."

The loss of Kevaughn Goldson is a devastating blow to the Lincoln University community and the broader HBCU athletics landscape. As a promising young sprinter, Goldson represented the best of HBCU sports - talented student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom, while serving as role models and inspirations for their peers.

HBCUConnect.com Perspective: Tragedies like this are always difficult to comprehend, especially when they involve the senseless loss of a young life with so much potential. The HBCU community is built on a foundation of togetherness, resilience, and perseverance in the face of adversity. While we mourn the passing of Kevaughn Goldson, we must also come together to support his family, his teammates, and the entire Lincoln University family during this incredibly challenging time. Events like this serve as a somber reminder of the importance of mental health awareness, healthy relationships, and creating safe spaces for all members of the HBCU community. As we honor Kevaughn's memory, let us also recommit ourselves to building a stronger, more supportive, and more just world for all.
