Black Enterprise's Women of Power Summit Celebrates 20 Years of Leadership Development for Black Women in Business

Black Enterprise is marking a significant milestone as its Women of Power Summit celebrates its 20th anniversary in March 2026, continuing its mission to support and advance Black women leaders across corporate America and beyond.

The annual gathering, which first launched in 2006, has evolved from its inaugural event into a cornerstone professional development conference that now attracts more than 2,000 trailblazing women at all levels of their careers each year.

Alisa Gumbs, Vice President and Deputy Chief Content Officer at Black Enterprise who has worked on the summit since 2015 and now leads its programming for a fifth year, emphasized the unique value the conference provides to its attendees.

"The summit is women who are all incredibly amazing in their own right and incredibly accomplished, and they've come together to work on themselves and to pour into each other in a way that is just so generous with their experience, wisdom, and their lessons," Gumbs told Black Enterprise.

Distinguished Honorees Reflect HBCU Excellence

The 2026 summit will honor several luminaries who exemplify leadership and achievement. The Legacy Award nominees include honorary Oscar Award winner Angela Bassett, Spelman College Interim President Rosalind Roz Brewer, and wealth management magnate Carla Harris. Luminary Award honorees include Angela Rye and Bozoma Saint-John.

The inclusion of Brewer, who leads the prestigious HBCU Spelman College, underscores the summit's commitment to celebrating Black women's leadership across all sectors, including higher education where HBCUs continue to play a vital role in developing future leaders.

The multi-day event has continuously adapted to address contemporary workplace challenges facing Black women professionals.

Gumbs explained that the summit's evolution reflects the changing landscape of work, from pandemic-era environments to navigating layoff waves and emerging AI technologies.

"Here we have women who are incredibly accomplished, who are well compensated, and we want to make sure that we're speaking to the whole person, and that we're tending to their financial health, their physical health, as well as their mental and emotional health," she said.

Building Multigenerational Community

A defining feature of the 20th anniversary celebration is the summit's multigenerational approach. Organizers are introducing a freshman class orientation specifically designed for first-time attendees, allowing newcomers to connect and build networks before the main programming begins.

This emphasis on community building reflects a core philosophy of the summit: that peer-to-peer learning is equally valuable as learning from stage speakers. As Gumbs noted, "The woman sitting next to you in this seat probably has as much to offer you as the woman on the stage."

Premier Corporate Support

The summit has attracted a growing roster of corporate sponsors, including Morgan Stanley, Nationwide, and UnitedHealth Group, demonstrating strong corporate commitment to supporting Black women's professional development and leadership advancement.

Looking ahead, Black Enterprise plans to expand the summit's reach through its BE Global Initiative, which focuses on the diaspora and connecting Black professionals doing great work internationally.

"We really want to be where the women are and where the women need us to be. Wherever there are women doing great things, but are not getting the credit or the shine that they deserve, we've gotta shine a light on their success," Gumbs emphasized.

The 2026 Women of Power Summit will take place March 11-15 in Las Vegas, with registration still available for those interested in participating in this historic anniversary celebration.
