FAMU Standout Lands Prestigious Coaching Role at Georgia Tech

FAMU Standout Lands Prestigious Coaching Role at Georgia Tech
Posted By: Will Moss on February 27, 2026

HBCU sports fans, we have an exciting story to share! Former Florida A&M University (FAMU) player and rising coaching talent, TJ Demas, has been hired as the assistant director of player personnel for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, a prominent Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) football program.

Demas' journey from being a key player on FAMU's 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship and HBCU national championship team to securing this coveted Power Five coaching opportunity is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the quality of HBCU athletics.

Key Takeaway: This hiring represents the growing recognition of HBCU talent and the increasing opportunities for HBCU student-athletes to make an impact at the highest levels of college sports.

After a successful playing career at FAMU, where Demas was an integral part of the Rattlers' offensive line, he transitioned into coaching, first as a student assistant and later working under Head Coach James Colzie and Offensive Coordinator Joe Henry.

His coaching experience continued to grow when he followed Henry to Florida International University (FIU), serving as a graduate assistant and working with the tight ends and recruiting operations.

Demas' diverse coaching experience and his proven track record of success have now earned him a coveted role at Georgia Tech, where he will assist in player personnel and long-term roster development under Head Coach Brent Key. The Yellow Jackets have been on an upward trajectory, with Key leading the program to 23 wins in his first three seasons and a top-10 ranking in 2025.

"Demas' move to Atlanta continues a rapid transition from player to Power Five staff member, and it's a testament to the talent and coaching abilities developed at HBCUs like FAMU."

For the HBCU community, this news is particularly significant, as it highlights the growing recognition of the exceptional talent and coaching expertise that can be found within our institutions. Demas' success story serves as an inspiring example for current and future HBCU student-athletes, demonstrating that with hard work and dedication, the path to the highest levels of college sports is well within reach.

As the premier online community for HBCU alumni and supporters, HBCUConnect.com is thrilled to see one of our own making waves in the competitive world of Power Five college football. This hiring not only reflects well on Demas' abilities but also shines a light on the incredible potential of HBCU athletes and coaches. We congratulate Demas on this remarkable achievement and look forward to witnessing the continued impact of HBCU talent at the highest levels of the sport.
