HBCU Spotlight: Kentucky State Softball Delivers Clutch Performances in SIAC Doubleheader

FRANKFORT, Ky. — In a thrilling SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) softball doubleheader, the Kentucky State University Thorobreds showcased their grit and determination, delivering a standout performance that captivated the HBCU community.

In the opening game, the Thorobreds found themselves locked in a marathon 11-inning battle against the LeMoyne-Owen College Magicians. Marissa Kemp, the ace of the Kentucky State pitching staff, put the team on her shoulders, tossing a complete-game gem to lift the Thorobreds to a 6-5 victory.

With the game tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the 11th inning, LillieAnn Hollom stepped up to the plate and delivered the decisive blow, crushing a walk-off single to secure the thrilling win for the Thorobreds.

While the Thorobreds were unable to complete the sweep, falling 6-4 in the nightcap, their efforts in the opening game sent a strong message to the SIAC conference and the HBCU community at large.

The Kentucky State softball program has a rich history, having won the SIAC championship in 2019 and 2021.
