An inciteful view of black music

Posted By: Kenneth Bell on April 18, 2005 I want to share with you all my current views of African-American music, how it effects the world, and how we as a people can have an effect on the music that is marketed towards us... Bad Brains is the single greatest punk rock band of all time! Who would've thought that an all black reggae band from Washington DC would not only get kicked out of their hometown, but go on to rule the 80s with their unique brand of punk music? They started off in 1977 as a jazz/funk band called Mind Power. Then one fateful day, a Sex Pistols CD came into their possession. The world would forever change. Mind Power dropped the jazz/funk get up and adopted the sound of punk and heavy metal, and reggae. But Mind Power was no more. The new name: Bad Brains. They toured throughout the nation's capital playing for any audience that would have them. They rocked hard. Maybe too hard. They're shows were so wild and out of control that they were banned from EVERY club, bar, and music playing place in Washington D.C. Bad Brains was and still is, banned in DC. The group moved to New York City to record their first album, Rior (later remastered and renamed Rock For Light). African-American punk fans, something no one thought existed, would have heroes to call their own. Anyway, their next CD was titled I Against I. Now Rock For Light was awesome, but I Against I blows it out of the water. This is the greatest 80s punk CD that I've ever listened to. 90s come along and the group had some disputes, line up changes, regroups, and eventually disbanded. RIP Bad Brains. Yeah! Lets see some lame R&B group like 112 do that.
