HBCU Standouts Shine on the Diamond: SIAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced

ATLANTA — The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), has announced its Baseball Players of the Week for the week of March 3. This recognition shines a well-deserved spotlight on the exceptional talent and dedication of HBCU student-athletes who are making waves on the baseball diamond.

Benedict College's Kent Johnson and Savannah State University's Austin McCormack were the two players honored for their standout performances last week. These young men exemplify the drive, skill, and unwavering spirit that characterize HBCU athletics, and their achievements are a source of immense pride for their respective institutions and the broader HBCU community.

Kent Johnson, a standout pitcher for the Benedict College Tigers, was recognized for his dominant outing on the mound. Johnson, a senior from Macon, Georgia, threw a complete game shutout, striking out an impressive 11 batters and allowing just four hits.

Austin McCormack, a junior outfielder for the Savannah State University Tigers, was also honored for his offensive prowess. McCormack, a native of Hinesville, Georgia, had an exceptional week at the plate, batting .500 with two home runs and seven RBIs. His clutch hitting and power display were instrumental in Savannah State's success, showcasing the depth of talent within the university's baseball program.
