HBCU Stars Shine Bright on the Men's Volleyball Court

HBCU Stars Shine Bright on the Men

ATLANTA β€” The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), home to many of the nation's top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), recognized three outstanding student-athletes for their exceptional performances on the men's volleyball court this past week.

Mallik Foreman of Benedict College was named the SIAC's Player of the Week, showcasing his dominant skills on the court. Foreman, a standout outside hitter, led his team to a series of crucial victories, cementing Benedict's position as a force to be reckoned with in the SIAC men's volleyball landscape.

Edward Waters College, another HBCU powerhouse, had not one, but two players honored by the conference. Richard Hendricks, a setter who orchestrates the Tigers' offense with precision, was named the SIAC's Setter of the Week. Complementing Hendricks' playmaking abilities, Caden Houston, a middle blocker, earned the Defensive Player of the Week award for his impressive work at the net, rejecting opposing hitters and leading his team's defensive efforts.

Key Takeaway: These weekly honors not only recognize the individual talents of these HBCU student-athletes but also highlight the rising prominence of men's volleyball programs within the SIAC conference.

As HBCUs continue to produce well-rounded scholar-athletes who excel both on and off the court, the SIAC is emerging as a competitive and thrilling volleyball powerhouse.

The SIAC, which comprises 14 member institutions, has long been a bastion of excellence in various sports, producing countless professional athletes and inspiring generations of HBCU students and alumni. The conference's commitment to nurturing well-rounded student-athletes is exemplified by the recognition of Foreman, Hendricks, and Houston, who have not only demonstrated their athletic prowess but also their dedication to their academic pursuits.

As the SIAC men's volleyball season continues to unfold, the spotlight will undoubtedly shine brighter on these HBCU standouts, showcasing the depth of talent and the unwavering spirit that permeates the HBCU community. The future looks bright for these young men, and their success is a testament to the transformative power of HBCU education and athletics.

"These weekly honors are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our student-athletes, as well as the exceptional coaching and support they receive from their institutions," said Dr. Anthony Holloman, Commissioner of the SIAC. "The SIAC is proud to celebrate the excellence of our volleyball programs and the positive impact they have on the HBCU community."
