HBCU Hoops: North Carolina A&T Seeks CAA Tournament Rebound Victory

HBCU Hoops: North Carolina A&T Seeks CAA Tournament Rebound Victory
Posted By: Will Moss on March 05, 2026

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The road to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship begins this Friday as the North Carolina A&T Aggies take on the Northeastern Huskies in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Despite struggling through a challenging regular season, the Aggies enter the tournament with a key statistical advantage - rebounding. North Carolina A&T averaged an impressive 37.0 rebounds per game this season, compared to just 31.7 for Northeastern. This +5.3 rebounding margin could prove to be the deciding factor in Friday's clash.

Key Takeaway: If the Aggies can control the glass and limit Northeastern's second-chance opportunities, it will go a long way towards securing a victory and advancing in the CAA Tournament.

Another area where the Aggies hold an edge is free-throw shooting. North Carolina A&T connected on an average of 17.8 free throws per game, compared to just 11.9 for the Huskies.

In a close tournament setting, those extra points from the charity stripe could make all the difference.

While Northeastern has been the more prolific three-point shooting team this season, converting 7.6 triples per game at a 33.7% clip, the Aggies' perimeter defense will need to be sharp to prevent the Huskies from getting hot from beyond the arc.

"Tournament games often swing on small statistical advantages, and both teams will be looking to find theirs in the opening round."

A Fresh Start for the Aggies

North Carolina A&T enters the CAA Tournament with an overall record of 11-18 and a conference mark of 4-14, while Northeastern finished the regular season at 6-23 and 2-16. However, the slate is now clean, and both squads will be eager to prove themselves on the big stage.

For the Aggies, the CAA Tournament represents an opportunity to showcase their resilience and the pride of the HBCU community. As one of the few HBCU programs competing in the CAA, North Carolina A&T will be looking to make a statement and inspire the next generation of HBCU student-athletes.

HBCUConnect's Perspective: The journey of the North Carolina A&T Aggies in the CAA Tournament is not just about basketball - it's about the enduring spirit of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. As the Aggies take the court, they carry the hopes and dreams of HBCU alumni and supporters across the nation, who will be cheering them on to victory. A deep run in the tournament would not only be a triumph for the team, but a celebration of the rich tradition and unwavering resilience of the HBCU community.
