In a dominant display of HBCU athletic excellence, the Howard University men's and women's basketball teams have secured the MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) regular season championships, setting the stage for an exciting MEAC Tournament showdown.

The Howard Bison men's team (21-10 overall, 11-3 MEAC) overcame an early second-half deficit to defeat the Norfolk State Spartans 84-76. Sophomore guard Cam Gillus led the charge for the Bison, scoring a team-high 22 points and sparking a crucial 15-6 run that propelled Howard to victory. Complementing Gillus' heroics were standout performances from Bryce Harris (18 points), Ose Okojie (12 points), Cedric Taylor III (11 points), and Alex Cotton (10 points).

On the women's side, the Howard Bison women's team (23-7 overall, 13-1 MEAC) dominated the Spartans from start to finish, earning a commanding 74-59 victory. Senior forward Nile Miller recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard Zoe Stewart led all scorers with 19 points. The Bison women's team also received a clutch performance from senior guard Ariella Heningan, who went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line, contributing 14 points to the team's efforts.

Key Takeaway: The Howard Bison's sweeping of the MEAC regular season titles in both men's and women's basketball is a remarkable achievement that showcases the exceptional talent and dedication within the university's athletic programs.

As the MEAC Tournament approaches, the Bison will look to continue their dominance and secure championship glory for their HBCU community.

For the Howard Bison men's team, this regular season championship marks their second consecutive MEAC title, as they look to defend their 2022 tournament crown. The Bison have consistently been a force to be reckoned with in the conference, demonstrating the program's commitment to excellence and the development of their student-athletes.

On the women's side, the Howard Bison women's team has solidified their position as the team to beat in the MEAC. After capturing the regular season title, they will enter the tournament as the favorites to claim the championship and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, where they can showcase the talent and determination of HBCU student-athletes on the national stage.

"This sweep is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and the entire Howard University community," said Howard University Athletics Director Kery Davis. "As we approach the MEAC Tournament, we are confident that our Bison teams will continue to represent the HBCU spirit with pride and determination."

The HBCU community at large can take great pride in the achievements of the Howard Bison basketball programs. Their dominance in the MEAC not only showcases the exceptional talent and coaching within HBCU athletics but also serves as a source of inspiration and pride for HBCU alumni, students, and supporters across the nation. As the Bison teams set their sights on postseason glory, the entire HBCU community will be cheering them on, eager to witness the continued success and impact of these remarkable student-athletes.
